Head of School Weekly Email: Taking Risks
February 06, 2026
Dear TA Families,
We jumped into February embracing lots of cool challenges and opportunities!
I want to thank students for taking risks inside and outside the classroom as they push their learning, hone their skills, experience new places, connect and share with others, and represent their school. And I want to thank all of the adults who make these experiences possible and support students as they stretch, learn, and grow.
A few highlights from this week:
- Last Saturday we had a team of middle school debaters participate in a meet in Lebanon, NH (read more), while our robotics teams trekked to Conway, NH for a big meet (read more).
- The whole 8th grade spent an exciting two days (and overnight!) at the Hulbert Outdoor Center for a big team-building field trip. (See photos attached.)
- Nine high schoolers took to the stage to compete in the annual Poetry Out Loud recitation on Wednesday – with a three-way tie! Congrats to the top point-earners, Maddie Piecuch, Twyla Weinstein, and Ranee Hall.
- The 7th grade took a field trip to River Bend Career and Technical Center to learn about the trades and our local tech center’s offerings.
- The alpine ski team had a big meet at Pico yesterday afternoon and are gearing up for States.
- And tomorrow our high school debaters head to Montpelier while a big group of drama students travels to Boston for a regional thespian festival!
The chilly temps and snow on the ground have not been a deterrent to some of our experiences. Rather, students and teachers are embracing the winter conditions in some classes, and we are grateful to students for coming prepared for outdoor activities.
Speaking of being outdoors, we are looking forward to Founders’ Day next week! My weekly email last Friday outlined key dates in February and the school calendar online is also a helpful resource. We will share more event details next week.
Stay warm out there this weekend! ❄️
Carrie Brennan, Head of School
