Head of School Weekly Email: Founders’ Day Recap, Upcoming Opportunities & Covid Protocol Reminders

Dear TA Community,
Founders’ Day 2022 is a wrap! We had a delightful day of community time and friendly competition, with a lot of creative flare, good humor, insightful wit, and athletic prowess on display. We also spent some time reflecting on TA’s history and traditions. The theme this year was decades of the 20th and 21st centuries. A few of the many highlights of the day: the fidget spinner snow sculpture representing the 2010s, the 1920s speakeasy-themed skit, the MTV-inspired outfits, a 1970s disco diorama with TA faculty faces on the small dancing figures, and the DeLorean of the 1980s vs the VW bus of the 1960s. Thanks to all of the students for making it a great day with their participation and enthusiasm – and a special congratulations to the three division winners, the 7th, 10th, and 12th grades.

- On Monday, the 10th grade will learn about Riverbend Career and Technical Center and be invited to participate in a site visit later in the week.
- On Tuesday evening, Vermont resident students who will be 15 or older this summer are invited to attend an information session about the VT Youth Conservation Corps.
- The one act drama club has been hard at work bringing back The Insanity of Mary Girard, which we had to cancel two years ago as the pandemic started to shut down events. Performances will take place in the Martha Jane Rich Theater on March 25 and 30.
- AFS and TA are recruiting local families to host international students next year. Read more here – and follow up with ISP Coordinator Susan Essex-Luce for more details.
On Monday, the Covid protocols at TA change significantly with a move to mask-wearing becoming optional indoors. We provided two updates last week, one on Tuesday 3/1 and another on Friday 3/4. Please review these if you haven’t yet and discuss and decide as a family how you want to approach the new mask guidance. We anticipate a number of students and staff will continue to choose masking in the coming weeks and months and request that everyone respect individuals’ choices.
Lastly, here is the alpine ski team results from states that I promised last week and please remember that Friday, March 18 is a teacher inservice day.
