Head of School Weekly Email: Robotics & Basketball Champs, Snowshoe Making & More

Dear TA Families,

Congratulations are in order! TA was a force to be reckoned with at last weekend’s NH/VT robotics championships. TA teams took half of the six spots to go to the VEX world championships in the spring. Check out the photos below and read all about the meet on the TA website! (And to learn more about what the robots have to do in this year’s competition, watch the short clip from a meet earlier in the season.)

Congratulations are in order, part 2! The TA girls varsity basketball team had a victory on Wednesday night and heads to the next level of playoff competition. Come out to cheer on the Panthers tomorrow against Richford. Game time is 12 at the Vaughan Alumni Gymnasium, doors open at 11:30am. Look for playoff updates from Athletic Director Bri Barnes in the coming days, as we get details about the boys schedule – and as we see how both teams progress.

Congratulations are in order, part 3! Students in the environmental studies and outdoor education class crafted their own snowshoes in recent weeks – and today finally got to get out onto the trails and try them out. The first stages of their work started in parent and community partner Leif LaWhite’s workshop to create the frames and then finishing stages happened on campus, including in the TA yurt. Check out the photos attached.

Looking ahead, here are some special dates and events to take note of:

  • March 4 – Thetford Town Meeting (at Thetford Elementary School)
  • March 6 – school resumes
  • March 8 – half day schedule
  • March 10 – SARJ film screening (details on the TA website)
  • March 17 – no school (teacher inservice)
  • March 17-18 – One Act Play performances
  • All of these (and more) are noted on our online school calendar: https://thetfordacademy.org/calendars/

TA is on break next week. We will see everyone back at school on Monday, March 6!

Thanks,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
