Q2 Report Card Mailing: Letter from the Head of School
January 23, 2024
The following letter accompanied students’ report cards, which were distributed on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
Dear Thetford Academy Parents and Caregivers,
Enclosed you will find your student’s first semester report card as well as a brochure about the TOP summer outdoor leadership program. Junior families will also find information from the counseling department about the college planning process.
Report card — I always encourage families to use these milestone moments during the school year to prompt conversations at home about classes, learning, growth, and goals. What were some highlights of the first five months of the year … a favorite experience, cool project, inspiring teacher, new skill, biggest ‘win’? What were some of the challenges … a disappointing grade, confusing content, a frustrating group, a personal obstacle? And, how might these things inform your student’s goals and hopes for the new semester?
TOP brochure — We continue to weave outdoor learning and leadership into our academic and extracurricular offerings, with the Thetford Outdoor Program in the lead. Summertime adventures are a TOP highlight! There are activities and trips for every age (MS and HS), interest, and level. When done, pass along the brochure to a future TA family in your network; new students, enrolling for 2024-25, are also invited to participate.
College planning overview — Director of Counseling Mark Pichette provides an overview for juniors and their families mapping out next steps and timelines for the Class of 2025 as they develop post-secondary plans, especially for students intending to go to college after TA.
It is a priority for me that we are always working to develop and foster strong school-family connections. I hope that our regular communications, like my weekly email, help to keep your family informed and offer a window into daily teaching and learning at TA, along with special school highlights. As always, please reach out with questions, suggestions, and ideas.
Wishing for every student a second semester of school experiences, inside and outside of the classroom, that inspire, engage, stretch, and support their learning and growth.
Sincerely,
Carrie Brennan, Head of School
