Thetford Academy students have the opportunity to travel to Montreal and Quebec April 16 through 20 next spring. They'll attend a hip hop workshop, visit a First Nations village north of Quebec City, dine and dance at a Sugar Shack, and go on a walking tour of some of Montreal's world famous urban art. Madame Heinzmann and Mr. Teschner will chaperone the trip. Any student grades 9 through 12 is welcome to participate. Thetford Academy runs one trip to Canada every four years.Interested? The Boys' Varsity and JV Panthers opened up the soccer season in Randolph with back-to-back wins. The varsity team beat Randolph 2-0, with goals from Ryan Pepe and Elliott Jones. Nathan O'Donnell and Knute Linehan played strong defense and Ryen Wolf had a two-save shutout in the goal. The JV Boys played a great game, coming in with a 4-1 win in the same afternoon. The bus pulled up to TA on the first day of Strafford's Newton School's partnership with Thetford Academy. On the bus: 16 Newton middle school students, principal Tracey Thompson, and several teachers and staff members. TA faculty met the bus, excited to welcome the group and help them get oriented to their new afternoon routine. This exciting new partnership between the two schools aims to both build community and provide student opportunity. Thetford Academy launched the new school year with an all-school assembly in the Vaughan Alumni Gymnasium. Head of School Carrie Brennan (Ms. Brennan, to students) introduced herself for the first time to the full student body, welcoming students to the year with a reflection on the school's mission and values, and the meaning and importance of community. TA is excited to announce the hire of six new faculty members who have joined our school community for the 2019-2020 school year. Please join us in welcoming these talented educators to Thetford Academy: Susan Essex Luce, who taught at South Burlington High School from 2011 to 2019, joins TA as our English Language Learning teacher and International Student Program coordinator. Susan has also worked with English language learners in Austria, taught German, Latin, and Spanish at the middle and high school levels, and worked in the field of international student travel.
