Thetford Academy is excited to bring Cindy Pierce, local sex educator, author, comedian and speaker, to our community for a dynamic, informative presentation about how to help kids develop healthy sexuality and behaviors in a hyper-sexualized world. The presentation is open the public and geared toward an audience of adults. It will take place Monday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Martha Jane Rich in the Anderson Hall at Thetford Academy. The 6th Annual Thetford Geography Bee is coming up on Friday, Nov. 3, at Thetford Academy.  If you're unfamiliar, the Geography Bee is a series of multiple choice questions typically crafted around a topic.  This year's theme is "Vermont Critters."  How well do YOU know your wildlife? There are two divisions—Youth (Grades 5-8) and Adult (Grade 9 and up).  Each division alternates answering questions, correct answers are tallied, and the winning teams receive great prizes.  It's loads of fun, and as in past years, proceeds are earmarked for the Historical Society's Hughes Barn Museum. The 27th annual Woods Trail Run took place on Saturday, Oct. 7.  Over 2,000 students from 100 schools across New England competed in 12 separate cross country races, making for an exciting day start to finish. Despite an unexpected stretch of rain, thousands of spectators came out to cheer on the runners, while hundreds of student, parent, and community volunteers kept the day moving along smoothly. Beginning this month, the Student Council will be coordinating TA's Wednesday assembly program.  Their goal is to broaden student participation and recognition through a student-centered model. Bringing our community together once a week is an important opportunity for students to learn about each other from each other and participate in meaningful dialogue with each other. Students will be doing the lion's share of the presenting, and Student Council members will be working hard to help make that happen, both by running each assembly, as well as by encouraging their classmates to participate in assembly.
