Head of School Weekly Email: Happy Halloween & November News

Dear TA Families,

This week’s email is full of dates and details to help with planning as we transition into the month of November. Check out the events below and find the ones that match your needs and interests. There is something for everyone!

Spirit Week at TA: October 30-November 3. Sponsored by Student Council and the Student Life Committee, our fall spirit week coincides with Halloween week. Check out the attached flyer for the details of each day. Our assembly moves to Tuesday next week so students can show off their costumes. (Please remember that Halloween costumes and outfits for the dress-up themes on the other days need to be school appropriate.)

Picture Retake Day: Thursday, November 2. Students should sign up with Gloria in the front office if they plan to get their photo taken on Thursday. This session is set up for students who were absent on the first photo day (Sept. 8) and for those who are requesting retakes. TA contact person: [email protected].

Putting the Garden to Bed Work Party: Saturday, November 4, 1-4pm at the TA School Garden. Help us bid adieu to the 2023 growing season with garden clean-up tasks and celebratory garlic planting. We’ll be turning and applying compost, preparing beds for spring planting, mulching pathways and perennials, raking leaves, and much more. Warm apple cider and fall treats provided! Bring your favorite garden tools to use and a wheelbarrow for us to borrow if you’re feeling extra generous. TA contact person: Garden Coordinator [email protected]. Read more here.

Disc Golf Course Work Day: Saturday, November 4. Also happening next Saturday is the further development of TA’s new disc golf course. Read more here. Interested volunteers can reach out to TOP Coordinator [email protected] to get involved.

Presentation on Managing College Costs: Monday, Nov. 6 at 6pm, in the Martha Jane Rich Theater at TA. This is open to the public and parents of all grades. The presentation will be led by staff from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC). Read more about VSAC and the resources it can provide for your Vermont families: https://www.vsac.org. TA contact person: Counseling Team Coordinator [email protected].

School Holiday: Friday, November 10. Thetford Academy will be closed on Nov. 10 in honor of Veterans Day.

Winter Clothing Swap for Ages 0-18: Saturday, November 11, 8am-1pm, at the Thetford Elementary School Gym. The TA community is invited to participate in this effort in a number of ways. Clothing donations can be made in the bin in TA’s front entrance (by the Health Office) between now and Nov. 9. Set up volunteers are needed on Nov. 10 at TES. Everyone is invited to attend the swap to get items for their families. Contact person is TA/TES parent, Rachael Cook, at [email protected].

TA Drama Presents ‘Radium Girls‘: Evening shows on November 17-18; matinee performances on November 18-19, in the Martha Jane Rich Theater. Join the fall drama class for their production of this compelling story, inspired by real events, set in the 1920s. We will share more details soon on securing tickets in advance.

And, there’s always more! Check out the school calendar page on our website for additional events & updates: https://thetfordacademy.org/calendars.

Best of luck to all of our cross-country runners competing in high school state championships tomorrow and middle school championships on Sunday!

Thank you,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
