By Charles Longshaw This reflection is from an overnight solo experience for Thetford Academy’s Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education Program. We were out in the wilderness, trying to see if we could make it through the whole night alone with limited materials. All I chose to bring with me were warm layers, hand warmers, a knife, whistle, matches, flashlight, water bottle, hat, and gloves. We weren’t allowed to bring electronics (including our phones), lighters, cotton clothing, or anything we couldn’t carry in our pockets. I was at my solo spot, a place in the Thetford State Forest that I have developed...

TA's Visual Arts teacher, Karyn Neubauer, includes a multimedia unit in her curriculum every year. So when Patricia Norton, director of the Upper Valley Music Center's Juneberry Choral Program, reached out with an idea to incorporate multimedia art into the group's next choral performance, it felt like a perfect fit. Juneberry Community Chorus, one of Juneberry's choral programs, is a roughly 70 voice group, with singers ranging in age from twenty-something to octogenarian. The group performs twice per year at the Lebanon Opera House, with the next performance scheduled for January 2020. For this performance, Juneberry commissioned a piece by...

By Ethan Howe In the Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education course, a major component of the class is “solos.” Solos are a designated time each week where students return to their solo spot and spend reflective time alone in the wilderness. A solo spot is a quiet place in the forest that each student has chosen. Everyone's solo spot is near the yurt in the State Forest. Every student has built a primitive shelter in their solo spot, but besides that the place is very wild. Limited materials are allowed including, rope, a tarp, a knife, a whistle, matches a journal...
