Larry Drew, long-time mathematics teacher, cross-country coach, and track and field coach at Thetford Academy, passed away on Sunday evening, Dec. 2, at the age of 85. And while he performed many roles at Thetford Academy, “Mr. Drew” (as his student-athletes addressed him), was probably best known as the face of cross-country at the school. Mr. Drew took the reins as head coach in 1971, the second year the sport was offered at TA. Under his leadership, the girls team would win five Vermont State Championships (1975, 1981, 1994, 1995, 1996), and the boys team would win three (1973, 1984, 1998)....

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, TA alumni came out in force to play ball on their former home court. Nineteen alumni from four decades of Thetford Academy classes showed up to the Alumni v. Students game, taking on a small but feisty group of current TA seniors. Both teams played hard and the game was too close to call until the students squeaked out a win the final seconds. Big thanks go to Coach Weigel for taking the time to ref (and catch up with alumni), Blendon Salls for manning the clock, and to all the alumni who participated or...

TA's sugar shack is starting to take shape.  Adjacent to the timber framed outdoor classroom just south of the student parking lot, the structure will be completed in the upcoming days — with several months of time to spare before this year's sugaring operation begins. With help from Mike Wells and Jere Linehan, Scott Ellis's Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education class leveled the foundation, built the floor and supporting walls, erected the roof trusses, and began work on the cupola during classes Nov. 28-30. Lumber harvested in Thetford was donated by Thetford resident John Morton. Sugaring on the TA campus has ramped...
