Senior Leah Kaliski and her brother Eli Kaliski, a junior, were awarded first place in their subject categories in the 15 to 18 year old age group of the Freedom and Unity Youth Film Contest this spring. Leah's film, In My Heart There is a Lemon, won first place in the Personal Stories category — her third first-place finish in three years.  Eli's film, In Search of Driving Heaven, won first place in the Vermont Arts and Culture category. In a beautiful graduation ceremony on TA's front lawn last Friday, we said goodbye and good luck to the 68 seniors in the class of 2018. We are so proud of every one of these students--now Thetford Academy alumni—and can't wait to see what they will accomplish in their next endeavors. With our bicentennial year fast approaching, TA is hard at work at chronicling our 200-year history in a commemorative book. Our Bicentennial Book Committee, led by local editor Alan Berolzheimer, is a dedicated group of TA staff, students, alumni, and community members. In the last several months, the book committee has been digging through archives at both TA and the Thetford Historical Society, and interviewing alumni, community members, and staff from Thetford Academy's past and present. Nathan Perron completed the rank of Eagle Scout in December 2017.  Starting in First Grade as a Tiger Cub he really enjoyed scouting, so he stuck with it through 11 years and stayed on track to complete Eagle Scout in advance of the deadline, his 18th birthday.  As a Boy Scout he held several leadership positions including serving to lead the Hanover Troop 45 as its Senior Patrol Leader for a year.  Because of his skills and advancements in Scouting he was selected and hired to be a camp counselor at a Boy Scout camp in Maine.
