June’s Student of the Month is a senior who produces excellent work, assignment after assignment. He is not just about getting the work done; he is about depth, substance, and often clever humor. He does not call attention to himself if his double-meanings or subtle jokes go unnoticed, but he certainly lets out a smile when individuals take notice. He is a true scholar who seeks feedback and views setbacks as an opportunity to improve. He stretches himself intellectually and will try something even though it may be difficult. The first time Ms. Chambers saw this young man, she was very...

By Thomas Worth There is now a sign leading up to the outdoor classroom. Now students and community members will know where to go when they come to the yurt for the first time. I made my sign by burning the letters into the wood by hand. It took me a full 5 days of class to be able to finish the burning on the wood. I brought up my A block class to show them the sign. They thought that it was really good. The sign hangs on a wire that is attached to two trees. I hope that future...

By Hugh O'Donnell For my capstone project, I decided to build off of my idea from the last capstone project I did in the fall and refurbish the fire pit in the outdoor classroom. The last fire pit I created was made of stacked stones, and I decided to create something a little more modern this time. The new firepit is made out of firebrick and mortar. It is five layers thick, and is in the shape of layered decagons. Originally, the mortar did not mix correctly, but after it dried, it held together well. After finishing the firepit, I decided...

By Spencer Williams To watch a video of the outdoor program highlights click Here This year the outdoor class did Three big projects that I see as highlights of the year.  We built a yurt, went on an overnight, and we did a maple sugaring unit. Building the yurt was a big accomplishment. We built our own classroom.  The yurt will be used as part of the outdoor program for many years to come. We also did a maple sugaring unit.  In this unit we had some local sugar makers come in and they helped us set up our sap lines.  This project really...

It was routed on a CNC router, then it was stained, painted and sanded. I really like how it turned out. I placed the sign on an oak post next to the yurt.  I made this sign so that everyone will know who made this great building....
