Nine 7th grade girls spent the night at the Thetford Outdoor Program (TOP) yurt in the Thetford Hill State Park adjacent to Thetford Academy on Friday, Nov. 30. Chaperone and science teacher Rose Dedam shared, “We did some nighttime sledding on the soccer field, hauled our gear up to the yurt on sleds, and had dinner. The wood-burning stove kept everyone warm and well fed.  “The next morning we had breakfast, cleaned up, and rode the sleds/bags down the road in the park to meet parents.” There will be two more TOP overnight treks for middle school students (boys and girls) this...

By, Jackson Kingsbury The Thetford Outdoor Program has built a Sugar Shack. The Sugar Shack was one of the biggest projects that the class took on this year. Each student was given one job to lead. I was responsible for the construction of the rafters, while Becca was responsible for the doors. We all helped each other with their jobs. I helped Becca with the doors and Tait helped me with the rafters. Everyone had something to do and it took the entire class working together to complete the project. A big thank you to Jere Linehan, and Mike Wells for the...

Larry Drew, long-time mathematics teacher, cross-country coach, and track and field coach at Thetford Academy, passed away on Sunday evening, Dec. 2, at the age of 85. And while he performed many roles at Thetford Academy, “Mr. Drew” (as his student-athletes addressed him), was probably best known as the face of cross-country at the school. Mr. Drew took the reins as head coach in 1971, the second year the sport was offered at TA. Under his leadership, the girls team would win five Vermont State Championships (1975, 1981, 1994, 1995, 1996), and the boys team would win three (1973, 1984, 1998)....

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, TA alumni came out in force to play ball on their former home court. Nineteen alumni from four decades of Thetford Academy classes showed up to the Alumni v. Students game, taking on a small but feisty group of current TA seniors. Both teams played hard and the game was too close to call until the students squeaked out a win the final seconds. Big thanks go to Coach Weigel for taking the time to ref (and catch up with alumni), Blendon Salls for manning the clock, and to all the alumni who participated or...

There are a lot of ways to celebrate TA's Bicentennial birthday this year--but only one big birthday challenge. This year, we need every one of you to help us reach our goal of 200 for 200 - $200K in gifts and pledges to support Thetford Academy this year. Your gift to "200 for 200" is a meaningful way to honor TA's important place in the history of Thetford and Vermont, to support today's students in all of their academic and extracurricular endeavors, and to help Thetford Academy plan for future -- the next 200 years. Make your gift today by...
