Dear TA Families, Re-Cap: Half-Day on Friday As I shared with students yesterday, we designed the December half day to pause our daily routines and create time for a range of 'big picture' activities, together as a school community - in our small group advisories, as a whole school of 300+, and with our grade-level classmates. The special schedule featured: A showcase assembly featuring arts and academic performances and athletics recognition. (Check out the kudos section below for more details and links.) An advisory session for students to reflect on and document milestones and goals in their academic journey. This activity was customized for the different...

This year, student led TA Climate Alliance (TACA) is on a mission to implement projects that address climate change issues here on campus and in our own community. Last weekend, 5 students attended the Youth Climate Leadership Academy Kick-Off Retreat, hosted by NH/VEEP along with 10 similarly motivated groups of students from schools across NH and VT. TACA came away from this two-day training with a clear vision, project, and concrete goals to move their work forward here on campus. Cynder Malin, a TA freshman, tells us what TACA has in store…. Thetford Academy Climate Alliance Update from Cynder Malin Our climate...

Throughout the semester, students in TA’s environmental studies and outdoor education course work toward an important milestone - the overnight solo experience. The experience at TA is similar to solos in programs like Outward Bound, and challenges students to spend time alone, connecting with nature and practicing self-reliance. For example, matches and warm layers - but no electronics or other modern distractions. They use what they’ve learned about the science of staying warm, how to make a...

Please check in with students on their academic progress thus far this quarter and help them finish strong before the winter break. When we return in January, we have a final week of classes and then move into exam week.  But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. Here are some important highlights in December and the week ahead. Please note especially the community presentation on Monday evening. Middle School Dance - Tonight! Dec. 1, 7-9pm TA 7th and 8th graders are invited to a dance hosted by the 8th grade class this...

Dear TA Families, Campus is really quiet today as we enjoy this first day of the Thanksgiving holiday, and pause the busy school routines for our first break of the year. Thanksgiving Traditions We love traditions at TA - some of them dating back generations, like Founders' Day, and others newer in their creation, like the all-school Thanksgiving meal we enjoyed together on Tuesday. We like to frame this time of year as a season of gratitude, starting with the cards and circles we did in advisories earlier this month and culminating with sharing delicious food together as a community. We hope our activities at school...
