Thetford Academy is committed to antiracism, and to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment in our school community. With DEI professional development opportunities for faculty and staff and school-wide recognition of a variety of cultural events, holidays, and traditions, it’s been a fun and informative Fall on campus. On October 6, TA's faculty gathered for their first in-service day since the start of the school year. An afternoon session provided teachers with a framework for looking at their curriculum with a DEI lens. They worked together to identify places where different cultures and perspectives could be included in their coursework,...
On a cool in-service morning last Friday, English and social studies teachers gathered together with snacks and coffee to read and discuss what ninth graders thought about a potential ban on cell phones at TA. “The idea of banning phone usage throughout the school is ultimately bizarre,” one student wrote. “I know that I use social media to connect with people I usually wouldn't consider doing in person and it has helped me with finding friendships,” argued another. “This decision could be one of the worst in the history of mankind,” declared yet another student. Although teachers greatly enjoyed reading these arguments,...

Dear TA Families, The Value of Adult Learning To do our best work with students, educators need occasional time in our professional schedule without students. The annual fall inservice in early October is an important milestone for teachers, support staff, and administrators. The pause in the normal routine of teaching classes and running school allows us to do deeper collaborative planning, share strategies and resources, and help each other get better at what we do. We had a really full agenda on Friday and are grateful for the professional development time together. In addition to the inservice last week, a smaller group of teachers participated in a special ropes course training on...
After having their first meet at Bellows Falls cancelled due to heat, the Cross-Country Team opened the season with a home meet on September 12th. With six complete teams, the boys finished second with a score of 45 to Burr and Burton's 44. Brady Sloop led the way for the Panthers. It doesn't get much closer than that. On the girls side, there were seven complete teams. TA's girls landed in third out of seven complete teams, with Ava Hayden leading all Panther harriers. The team would next race at the Manchester Invitational on Saturday, September 23rd. With fast competition, including some of...
