TA News

Dear TA Families, As we move into the fall season, we are looking ahead to annual traditions at Thetford Academy and reaching out for community and parent volunteers to support events. Mountain Day - Friday, Sept. 23 We want the TA Mountain Day tradition to continue! However, bus and bus driver shortages also continue, adding to the complexity of this school-wide field trip day. We are recruiting parent and guardian drivers to help us transport students for the 9th, 10th, and 12th grade trips. Use this form to give your student permission to participate in Mountain Day - and also to sign up to...

Deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon, a Thetford Academy alumna (2007) is working to protect the genetic diversity and landscape of the Amazon rainforest. She is the founder of Selva Libre, a conservation nonprofit working to protect land and restore ecosystem services through the direct purchase of both intact and degraded tracts of rainforest.   According to the alumna (who would prefer not to be named in order to protect the safety of those working on the project), Selva Libre’s goal is to protect the genetic diversity of the region, and build landscape resilience by cultivating a variety of endemic and endangered plant...

When the school year opened on Aug. 23, TA's VEX Robotics team 4886 wasted no time getting to work on the VEX 2022-2023 challenge. This year's game, called "Spin Up," is a fun take on disc golf: each alliance's robots have to be able to shoot discs into the 12' x 12' field's two "high goals." And when they miss, it costs them - giving an automatic point for the opposing alliance. Robots can also score by spinning one the four rollers set up on the field perimeter to their team color, or by covering as much of the field...

Dear TA Families, We had an activity-filled week, starting with our first regular assembly of the year during power hour and culminating today with the 9th grade retreat on our outdoor campus this morning. It was wonderful to see so many of you at Back to School Night on Thursday evening - we enjoy being able to host parents back on campus these days! School Photos Picture day was yesterday and every student in attendance should have had the opportunity to get their photo taken. Geskus, the photography company, has extended the deadline for online pre-ordering until September 6th. Directions for online ordering are on the picture...

The all-day event included a diverse crowd of writers, artists, wildlife biologists, foresters, and others whose work and interests relate to the long-term stewardship of northeastern forests. The day began in the Martha Jane Rich Theater with...

Dear TA Families, Lots of new shoes and first-day nerves and excitement on display this past Tuesday as we started the school year. We welcomed back over 220 returning students, along with over 90 new classmates - and an awesome cadre of new faculty. The new year brings lots of opportunities for everyone - new and returning students, middle schoolers and high schoolers. We encourage students to get involved and make the most of their TA experience. Every Thursday during Power Hour, we have built-in time during the school day for club meetings and activities. Teacher advisors and student leaders promoted offerings during the club...
