TA News

In 1996, a major renovation of TA's White Building created the now spacious and light-filled school library. Featuring large east-facing windows and expansive views of the Connecticut River Valley and New Hampshire’s mountains, the library’s central reading room, the adjoining learning lab, and the project room next door are a hub of activity for both students and staff. As the ‘new’ library turns 25, TA has been working to modernize and refresh this important space. Over the last two years, the library received a fresh coat of paint and bright new flooring. The elimination of a wall further opened the...

Dear TA Families, From my office window I have a beautiful view looking northeast with the TA flagpole in the foreground and the peaks of Mt. Moosilauke off in the distance. This afternoon the flag is blowing in the brisk wind and Moosilauke's two peaks are fully covered in snow: both reminders of the chilly temps outside and the start of winter. Here at school we have a dusting of snow around campus, just enough to play with during Community Day activities earlier this week.  With December's arrival, we enter the final stretch of the semester, a timeframe that is especially important...

The following information and reminders were sent via email from Nurse Ellen Gnaedinger on December 2, 2021. It can be hard to maintain that balance sometimes, with the continuous pull of other responsibilities. What a joy it was, therefore, to immerse myself in TA classes, sitting alongside middle school and high school students, watching as they engaged in a variety of challenging activities, practiced skills, and grappled with new material and concepts.  I was impressed with the technical vocabulary and tools...

Last fall, when Thetford Academy's high school Getting to Y teams analyzed the results of TA's 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, they found a problem they wanted to solve: 40% of TA students felt undervalued by their community. Armed with a goal to improve every student's sense of worth and belonging at TA, the middle school and high school teams began to brainstorm ways to bring a little sunshine into the lives of their classmates–and to show that the TA community cares. They decided to try "Sunshine Boxes", an initiative aimed at bringing a little joy to students who...

Thetford Academy had its first significant snowfall this weekend, a perfect lead-in to the start of the winter sports season. Starting on Monday, November 29, TA's basketball, indoor track, and alpine skiing athletes started regular practices, and on Tuesday, the Nordic Ski Club hosted an informational meeting/boot-fitting for all interested students.
