Head of School Weekly Email: Teacher Appreciation Week & Other May News

Dear TA Families,

Monday kicks off Teacher Appreciation Week! We are grateful for your partnership in celebrating all of the dedicated adults who work at Thetford Academy.

Teacher Appreciation Week – Your Help Requested
Providing homemade lunches throughout the week (and breakfast on Friday) is a wonderful way to say thank you. Sharing food is sharing love! Again, the menu is as follows: Monday features soups, Tuesday is a taco theme, Wednesday salads, Thursday sandwiches and wraps, and Friday breakfast. Volunteer roles other than contributing food include set up and clean up and flowers. The sign-up sheet is almost full but there are a few spots remaining – and we can always enjoy more 🙂

In addition to yummy meals, we would like to shower TA educators with messages of appreciation as well. This has been a favorite over the years, with notes posted and treasured in classrooms and offices. Students and parents alike are encouraged to take a few minutes to fill out this form – the messages are printed on a decorated template and delivered to individuals throughout the week.

May Events
The final weeks of the school year are especially busy ones. This one-pager provides an overview of events for the next 6 weeks and, as always, the calendar page on our website is a helpful resource. A few special highlights:

  • Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4-8: More details at the links above.
  • ODW Service Day, May 8: Please let the school know if your student is doing their service work at home on Friday. Check out the bake sale on the Thetford Green between 9:30am-2:30pm.
  • Honors Celebration, May 8: Invitations for this evening event went out to qualifying students and their parents on April 17 (and again April 27). Questions? Contact [email protected].
  • Spring Musical, May 15-17: More details at the link.
  • High School Registration & Info Session, May 20: Special virtual event for the Class of 2030 parents and students. Event contact is [email protected].
  • Memorial Day, May 25: Just a reminder that school is closed on the final Monday of May.

We didn’t miss a beat returning from spring break and jumping back into academic work. Things are winding up – not down – as we move into the second half of 4th quarter. Check out the photos below for a glimpse into classes around campus. And the same is true for spring sports, as teams shift into their competition schedule. Best of luck today to varsity baseball and softball at home (11am), as well as all of the athletes heading out of town today – JV baseball to U32 and high school track and field to Burlington.

Featured photos: English 10 students worked on their scenes to bring Shakespeare’s language to life, with guest artist Sean Eastman getting into the action. The cast of Cabaret is readying for their upcoming performances. The physics class pitched products created during their electricity and magnetism unit in a shark tank style presentation – and welcomed retired teacher Gary Engler back to campus for the judges panel.

Thanks,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
