Panthers’ Uly Junker-Boyce Wins Two Track and Field New England Championships

Thirteen Thetford Academy athletes competed this weekend at the New England Track and Field Championship in New Britain, CT, the largest group from TA that has ever competed at outdoor New Englands. TA athletes set three new VT state records and, for the first time ever, TA brought home two New England championship medals – both earned by senior Uly Junker-Boyce.

According to Coach Breakstone, Uly had one of the best performances ever by a VT athlete at New Englands. He won the long jump with a jump of 23′ 7″, nearly a foot better than 2nd place. He then won the 200 in a time of 21.52, which improves his all-time Vermont record. No Thetford Academy athlete has ever won an outdoor Track and Field New England Championship before, and by all accounts, no VT athlete has ever won two.

For state records, TA’s Luke Miller improved his Vermont Division 3 state record in the 400 with a time of 50.04, which was good for 15th place. The boys 4×400 of Uly Junker-Boyce, Daniel Mann, Brady, and Luke also set a new VT Division 3 state record of 3:28.04.

Keep an eye on these TA athletes, some are competing in the decathlon on Monday and Tuesday and at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia later in the week. And congratulations, Uly!!
