TA News

On Thursday, Feb. 11, eight Thetford Academy students gathered at the timber framed outdoor classroom to recite poetry with a view. The students were competing in Vermont's Poetry Out Loud contest, hoping to be TA's representative to the state--and maybe even the national--competition. This year was the twelfth year in a row that TA has hosted a qualifying event, and the first time it was held outdoors, a COVID twist on a TA tradition. Poetry Out Loud, founded in 2005, is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a...

On Tuesday, February 9, 2021 the Counseling Department hosted the second workshop in its series designed to help juniors and their families learn about the college application process. Dear TA Families and Students, It is with deep sadness that I write to you today to share the news that Sue Farrell, our beloved school nurse, passed away this morning with her family by her side. Sue was diagnosed just last month. The progression happened so very fast, and we are all trying to process this devastating turn. Sue has been a vital part of the Thetford Academy family since she joined the staff back in 2007. As the school’s nurse, Sue was a strong advocate for the mental and physical wellbeing of young people, making sure students always had a...

Dear Thetford Academy Parents and Guardians, Enclosed you will find your student’s 1st semester report card for Fall 2020. Perhaps this year more than any other it is important that we find the time and patience to listen with extra care to our student’s stories, ask questions...

On Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, TA's Counseling Office hosted an informational session demystifying the college scholarship application process. Led by Counseling Director Mark Pichette, the presentation included information about how students can access local, regional, and national scholarship opportunities to offset college tuition costs. Students and families can access the full video presentation below. ...

With more than 200 years of school history, TA likes its traditions. Founders' Day, celebrated by generations of TA students, honors the founding members of Thetford Academy who opened the school in 1819. 2021 marked the 78th consecutive year that TA has celebrated its birthday this way.  Though it looked a little different in the era of COVID (the opening ceremony went virtual, for example), students still competed by grade level for Founders' Day bragging rights. There were sack races, snowshoe races, obstacle courses, and trivia contests. The theme this year, aptly, was "Bingeable TV Shows" and grades took on  "The Office,"...
