On Sunday, August 21, 2022, Thetford Academy will host two "back to school" events for students and families. At 4 p.m., TA invites students new to TA and their families to campus for an informal welcome event. The New Student Welcome is designed to give incoming TA students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with campus before the first day of school. With the support of TA staff and student ambassadors, new students are invited to walk their schedules, locate and test out their lockers, and ask any questions they have about being a student at Thetford Academy. Thetford Academy's fall athletics season is quickly approaching! Sign ups are now open for soccer and cross country. Students and parents should have received an email from Athletics and Activities Director Bri Barnes with more information and the link to sign up. High school sports will begin on Thursday, August 18th, and middle school sports will start on the second day of school, August 24th. Athletes who have completed the sign up process will receive preseason tryout and practice times via email, as well as the 2022/2023 Athletic Handbook. Questions? The Thetford Academy Parent Association (TAPA) will host two virtual information sessions on Monday, August 15, 2022. Parent organizer, Roseann Emerson, with the support of TA staff member Molly Dugan-Sullivan and Head of School Carrie Brennan, is working to reinvigorate the association, which has been largely dormant during the pandemic. Monday's information sessions, scheduled for 9:00 a.m and 5:30 p.m., are an opportunity for TA parents to learn more about how to get involved with and support Thetford Academy. Shout out to the Thetford families who hosted two AFS (American Field Service) exchange students from Italy for the 20221-2022 school year.  We are grateful for their willingness to host TA students and make possible a wonderful exchange year for these students, their families, and our school and community. Right now, AFS is looking for host families in Thetford for exchange students who have already been approved for admission to Thetford Academy for the 2022-2023 school year.  Hosting an exchange student is great opportunity to make a difference in a young person's life. TA is pleased to welcome Brianne (Bri) Barnes to the team as Thetford Academy's new Director of Athletics and Activities. Bri brings a wealth of experience to the position, most recently serving as the Director of Athletic Programs for Hanover, NH's Parks and Recreation department and at Oxbow High School as Director of Athletics and Activities. Bri's experience in and enthusiasm for youth athletics is an asset to Thetford Academy's program. Long-time faculty member Karen Heinzmann was honored with the Peters Family Dedicated Employee of the Year award at the year-end ceremonies in June. Initiated by TA educator and alum Ted Peters '63 in honor of his parents, this annual award spotlights a Thetford Academy employee for their deep commitment to nurture, support, and inspire students and the school community. Known affectionately as 'Madame' by generations of students, Karen has been a member of the world languages department for three decades, specializing in the teaching of French language and culture.
