TA News

Dear TA Families, My email today focuses primarily on our upcoming student roundtables, to share details and context with you and to send out the sign-up link. On Wednesday, April 6, the school day will be dedicated to student roundtables. The day will be a fully remote one for students. The primary time obligation for students that day will be to participate in their own roundtable and attend peers' roundtables, if they have been invited to one by a classmate. Classes will not meet on April 6. Here are few key details about the Student Roundtables on April 6: They will take place virtually, using...

CLICK HERE FOR FOUNDERS' DAY PHOTOS! Last Friday, Thetford Academy celebrated its 203rd birthday. Founders' Day, now in its 79th year, was postponed from its traditional February date as a Covid precaution. The shift to March had advantages (it was MUCH warmer and the sun even came out!) and disadvantages (snow was scarce for snow sculptures and float races), but in true TA fashion - the community came together to make it work. On Wednesday and Thursday, every corner of the campus was filled with students planning and creating with their Founders' Day committees. The theme this year was "decades," with...

Dear TA Community, Founders' Day 2022 is a wrap! We had a delightful day of community time and friendly competition, with a lot of creative flare, good humor, insightful wit, and athletic prowess on display. We also spent some time reflecting on TA's history and traditions. The theme this year was decades of the 20th and 21st centuries. A few of the many highlights of the day: the fidget spinner snow sculpture representing the 2010s, the 1920s speakeasy-themed skit, the MTV-inspired outfits, a 1970s disco diorama with TA faculty faces on the small dancing figures, and the DeLorean of the 1980s vs...

Did you know that Thetford Academy has two Italian students enrolled this year through the AFS-USA program? In order to continue this successful partnership in the upcoming school year, AFS-USA is seeking host families for high school exchange students who would be attending Thetford Academy in 2022/23. Most students will arrive around August 10, 2022. Students may stay for one year or one semester. Hosting is a great opportunity to share the best America has to offer. If you have children in your household (it’s not a requirement), it’s also the perfect way to introduce them to other cultures. As a...

Thetford Academy Drama Club students will perform “The Insanity of Mary Girard,” by Lanie Robertson, in the MJR Theater at the school on Friday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. Robertson’s play is a dramatic re-creation of the real-life story of the wife of the famous Philadelphian philanthropist, Stephen Girard (he personally saved the U.S. government from financial collapse during the War of 1812).  Girard committed his wife, Mary, to a Pennsylvania hospital as an incurable lunatic in 1790, where she spent the last 25 years of her life.  The play centers primarily on Mary’s time in the hospital, as told by her and a “greek...

It was an exciting race season for TA's alpine skiers, culminating in the State Championship at Burke Mountain on March 1 and 2. TA sent six skiers from its boys team to the event: Ben Acker, Liam Patterson, Logan Wurtz, Harland Ransom, Isaac Yukica, Oliver Yukica, and Uly Junker-Boyce. Despite a disappointing team finish, there were many moments on the course worth celebrating. Senior Ben Acker led the TA team with a strong individual performance, earning 39th overall in the Giant Slalom and 37th in the Slalom. Freshmen Isaac and Oliver Yukica traveled back from Utah the night before and...
