The following letter accompanied student report cards for second quarter/first semester, which were sent home with students on January 26. An update from TA robotics coach Leif LaWhite: Departing from TA at 6:15 a.m. and -16F, Thetford Academy’s VEX Robotics team 4886 sent all six middle and high school teams (13 students) to Belmont, NH on Saturday. The Panthers aim to play a regular schedule this week.  Last Wednesday, the JV boys stepped in to help fill the court for a home game v. Williamstown (51-35). The boys then took on Lamoille (57-50) on Friday with just six players. After a strong start from the Panthers, Lamoille muscled back the lead in the fourth quarter. Dear TA Families, Second semester started on Tuesday, with a whole new slate of classes for high schoolers and new arts/tech electives for the middle schoolers. A 31-year-old TA tradition resumed when students in Emily Silver’s “English 10: Identity and Voice” class hosted its Anthology Reading in the MJR Theater last week. After a Covid hiatus, the event was back in-person, with students presenting their work to gathered families and faculty guests. The Anthology Project is a rite of passage at Thetford Academy, one that every student must complete as part of TA’s required English curriculum. The assignment challenges students to explore identity and voice through the written word; it must include students’ own writing as well as selections from the works of others. TA’s ski team launched the alpine racing season at Bromley Mountain last Thursday. TA sent its largest team recent history, entering five girls and 12 boys in the panel slalom event. Despite just two short days of on-snow practice and many skiers new to racing, the team had a successful day with lots of smiles, laughs, and victories big and small. The Thetford girls finished in fourth place out of five teams, and the boys finished third out of six teams.
