Shoutout to Senior Standouts: 2026 Green & Gold and National Merit Semifinalists
September 30, 2025
Every year, the University of Vermont announces the recipients of its prestigious Green and Gold Scholarship, awarded to the most academically talented rising high school senior in every Vermont secondary school. This year, Thetford Academy is proud to share that our 2026 Green and Gold awardee is Sam Parkman.
Sam was selected from among the Class of 2026’s most academically accomplished students. His exemplary academic record includes pursuing Thetford Academy’s most rigorous courses and honors opportunities, Vermont’s dual enrollment program, and studies at Dartmouth College. Sam has also been an engaged member of the school community throughout his years at TA, serving as a class officer, an athletic leadership council member, and a student representative on the Thetford Academy Board of Trustees. He also competes on Panther teams as a three-season athlete.
The Green and Gold Scholarship provides full in-state tuition to UVM for four years, and all awardees are invited to enroll in the University’s prestigious Honors College. Congratulations, Sam!
Another annual announcement of academic excellence comes from the National Merit Scholarship Program. This year, we are excited to announce that two students in the Class of 2026 were named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. Congratulations to Daniel Mann and Elijah Renner!
The award is based on outstanding PSAT/NMSQT performance, and students earning this title represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Just 27 students in Vermont achieved this honor. To advance from semifinalist to finalist standing, students must submit an application that includes their high transcript, extracurricular activities, an essay, and SAT scores. We are rooting for Daniel and Elijah as they enter this next round of competition.
Head of School Carrie Brennan shares her accolades for the awardees: “I am really proud of these three seniors for their top-notch academic achievements, as well as their all-in attitude about leading and contributing to our school community. They have embraced the opportunities we have here at Thetford Academy – and beyond – throughout their four years of high school.”
