Home | News | Planning for the Future, a Timeline for Seniors

Every year, the fall foliage on Thetford Hill signals that it is time for seniors who are interested in post-secondary education or training to dive deep into future planning.

This process of laying the groundwork needed to meet institutional requirements can include filling out applications, writing essays, asking faculty mentors for letters of recommendation, and taking standardized tests. For many colleges, Nov. 1 is the first early application deadline and a good target date for students to work toward.

Parents, on the other hand, should begin to gather the materials necessary to complete required financial aid forms. For the majority of families, that is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Students who are applying to some private institutions will also be required to fill out the College Scholarship Service (CSS) form. Both of these portals open on October 1.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, Thetford Academy’s Counseling Office hosted a virtual college information session for current seniors and their families. The one-hour workshop, led by director of counseling Mark Pichette, provided an overview of both the college application process and financial aid process. A recording of the event can be found here.
