TA's indoor track program was well-represented at the New Balance National High School Championships last weekend in Boston. Uly Junker had qualified in three separate events (the long jump, the 200 and the sprint medley relay), but sustained an injury shortly before the events began. Nevertheless, the sprint medley team of Evan Rich '25, Sebastian Pedrizet '27 (who saved the day by driving down to Boston on a moment's notice to fill Uly's spot), Luke Miller '25 and Brady Sloop '25 ran a tremendous race in a time that was faster than dozens of other significantly larger schools. Meanwhile, Ava...

Dear TA Families, Every Monday we come together as a school community in our weekly assembly. The whole school - students and staff - convene in the Vaughan Alumni Gymnasium to share accolades, watch student performances, make announcements, and learn about upcoming events and opportunities. One of our school goals each year is to try to ensure that every student has an opportunity to be recognized and be on the gym floor during assembly. It is no easy feat getting up in front of the whole school, whether to receive an award, perform, represent a club or class, or whatever the occasion,...

Go Panthers! In a showdown at the Barre Auditorium last weekend, Thetford Academy's Panthers defeated the Hazen Wildcats 58-44 to take the Division III state title for the second year in a row. This was the Panthers' 4th crown in seven seasons and eighth overall. The team entered the playoffs in the second seed with a solid 17-3 season record. In the semifinals, the Panthers breezed over Winooski 62-46 in game that the Valley News described as having "little drama" and an impressive defensive strategy. On Saturday, the Panthers opened with a a "red hot first half" and executed their well-practiced...

On Saturday, nineteen TA roboteurs took their six machines to the NH/VT Robotics State Championship at Manchester Community College in Manchester, NH. Thirty-two other robots from 12 other VT & NH schools had met the qualification criteria and were there competing. In addition to state-championship trophies, there were six invitations to the World championship in the offing.    All morning and until 3PM, the robots were pitted in randomly selected 2V2 pairs to compete in a total of 78 two-minute bouts. During those hours, the leader boards kept shifting, and for a goodly portion of them, our own middle school team 4886A (Meredith...

Thetford Academy hosted its 16th annual Poetry Out Loud recitation contest in the Martha Jane Rich Theater on Monday, with performances from 11 talented TA students. Poetry Out Loud, “a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry,” has become a TA tradition and is a staple of the school’s English 10 curriculum. The contest not only exposes students to poetry, but also helps them master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. This year’s contestants, Rowan Moody A'Ness '27, Lola Squire '27, Aiden Otterman '27, Jillian Fein '27, Caroline Watts '25, Christopher "Kit"...

Guest post by TA Alpine Ski Coaches Paul Dixon and Amy Huyffer Thetford Academy's Alpine Ski team really hit their stride during the second half of the season. The team's top skiers continued their early climb up the leaderboards, notching some top 10 and top 15 finishes both during the regular season and at the District Championship. Other athletes saw their practice and hard work pay off, seeming to find another gear and earning spots on the roster for the States team. For the second year in a row, both the Ladies and Men's teams qualified for the Alpine State...
