The smell of pizza wafted through campus last Wednesday evening as both the girls and boys middle school basketball teams celebrated the end of successful seasons. The girls started off in a challenging position when an injury left the team with just six active players. Of course, that didn't stop this group of hard-working, determined athletes! This team showed up every day ready to play. They supported each other, encouraged each other, and worked together to make the most out of their season. Not only did the team develop their basketball fundamentals, but their perseverance and hard work helped them develop...

Dear TA Families, As we head into February break, I invite you to help shape Thetford Academy's future by sharing your voice and perspective. Input Requested: Mission Statement Survey Thetford Academy convened a task force this year to guide the development of our next strategic plan. It is both daunting and inspiring to think big about the future, set institutional goals, and help build the bridge towards those aspirations. How do we envision the TA of 2030? 2035? ...

On Friday, February 13, 2026, Thetford Academy celebrated its 207th birthday and its 83rd annual Founders’ Day. Former Head of School Carl Anderson started the Founders’ Day tradition in 1944, after a tragic fire destroyed the school’s original campus. With Founders’ Day, Anderson hoped to honor the school’s deep history, lift the spirits of its community, and to celebrate TA’s resilience through hard times. Many of the original traditions from that first Founders’ Day remain in practice today, from the candle lighting ceremony to the many school wide competitions. Students still compete each year to earn the title “Founders’ Day champion”...

This year, all seven of Thetford Academy's VEX Robotics teams (two middle school teams and five high school teams) qualified to compete in the VT/NH State Championships. The event, hosted by Manchester Community College in Manchester, NH, was full of exciting matches and some disappointing losses. At the end of the qualification matches, all TA teams were ranked in the top 20 (of 40 robots). In the elimination round, TA's teams played well, and three of the four robots competing for the tournament championship were our own. In the end, team 4886W Wiseguys (Jesse Martin, Kai Slayton) and their alliance partner...

Thetford Academy recently hosted its 17th annual Poetry Out Loud (POL) recitation contest featuring poetry performances from nine talented TA students: Eleora Santor, Lucca Huling, Maddie Piecuch, Camren Murray, Anna Ferrier, Evelyn Hayden, Twyla Weinstein, Ranee Hall, and Jay Hill. Each student recited personally selected poems for the team of community judges, who evaluated students' physical presence, voice and articulation, interpretation, evidence of understanding, and overall performance. This year, the team of judges included alumna and Upper Valley actor and director Kay Morton ’76, alumna and former Poetry Out Loud standout Grace Solsaa ’24, and poet and editor Jim Schley. It was a...

Dear TA Families, Yesterday we celebrated our 83rd Founders' Day as a school community. This is an energetic mid-winter event that Carl Anderson started to bring people together after the school burned down in 1942 - and it has been a treasured tradition ever since.  Students in every grade demonstrated incredible creativity and productivity in their committees earlier in the week, leading up to the big day. Yesterday the sunny skies and warmer weather helped make for a fun atmosphere for the outdoor competitions. We welcomed alumni ranging in classes from 1951 to 2006 back to campus to participate as judges and banquet guests.  Thank...
