Dear TA Families, Garden Fun (and Work and Learning)! This week we officially shifted into fall with the autumnal equinox, and it seems like a fitting moment to feature the bounty of our school garden, which is bursting with vegetables and flowers and has seen a bustle of activity during the first month of school. The new wash-pack station, built by the timber frame class last semester, is a practical (and beautiful!) addition to the garden's resources - serving as a gathering space and classroom, in addition to its key role in processing produce. Here are a few spotlights of classes that have integrated...

Earlier this year, Vermont's legislature signed education transformation bill H.454 into law as Act 73. The bill aims to create efficiencies and promote cost-savings for Vermont's education system through a variety of levers. The current focus of the transformational work ahead is being done by the state's Redistricting Task Force, which is meeting intensively this fall under a December deadline. The Thetford Academy Board of Trustees is playing a key advocacy role for Thetford Academy in this process and working to keep our school community informed and engaged. One of the recent steps they took was to submit a letter to...

This past Friday, we celebrated our 47th annual TA Mountain Day with a fantastic day of hiking and connection. Each class set off on their own adventure, climbing the familiar peaks visible from the steps of the White Building. The weather was clear and perfect—ideal for taking in the stunning views and enjoying time outdoors. It was a wonderful opportunity to unplug, appreciate the natural beauty around us, and share the experience with classmates and colleagues. Here's to another memorable Mountain Day! We are still gathering photos from all of the classes and will share a gallery link next week. If you asked Thetford Academy senior Elijah Renner how he spent his summer vacation, the answer might surprise you. As a student who thrives on academic challenge, summer for Elijah often means taking every opportunity to dive deeply into his areas of interest, especially the intersection of science and emerging technology.  Here at TA, Elijah shines as a student, competes on the debate team, is a founding member of the STEM club, and runs with the cross country and track and field teams. Outside of school, he has distinguished himself as a STEM scholar, working on research with scientists from the...

Dear TA Families, I am SO impressed with students' energy and engagement in the early weeks of the school year, and I want to encourage us all to support them in keeping up the good momentum. This is not just a honeymoon phase of the new year - this is who we are as a school community! A few highlights of the week to share, all related to the theme of seeking opportunities, getting involved, staying engaged, and sharing infectious positive energy.  Kudos to all of the students and staff who participated in the summer reading challenge. At the assembly on Monday, we had...
