Dear TA Families, May is (almost) here. But before we jump ahead, let's savor our April days. Student Appreciation Week This past week our school hallways were adorned with joyful, personal, and heartfelt notes - one for every student in the school - written by faculty advisors. Check out this awesome video compilation of some of the 300+ cards around campus. Although it feels like spring has just arrived, it's already time to start planning ahead for next school year! The Counseling Department has been hosting sessions for each of the grades to guide students through the planning process and provide instruction on the high school course registration steps. Engineers from the Vermont Agency of Transportation were on campus this month to lend their expertise to TA students embarking on a bridge-building unit. AOT's Fianna Barrows PE, Structures Design Engineer, joined Tony Strat-Cortez's Physics class to present on different design techniques for building strong bridges and the variables that she takes into account when designing bridges for the Vermont climate and landscape. Using what they learned, students were tasked with designing and constructing with just a few prescribed materials: hot glue and/or wood glue, popsicle sticks, string for suspension, and a variety of dowels. TA's baseball season opened Saturday with the varsity boys' decisive 11-1 win vs. the Windsor Yellowjackets. Benjamin Rosenberg from the Valley News reported that the team played well together right out of the gate: "Coming off three straight trips to at least the VPA Division III semifinals, the Thetford Academy baseball team looked every bit the part of a unit ready to make it four in a row in Saturday’s season opener." Dear TA Families, Here is a list of events & opportunities coming up this spring - for students, for parents, and for everyone: First up: Tonight is the High School Spring Semi-Formal! Hosted by the junior class, the dance will be here at TA in the Vaughan Alumni Gym from 7:30pm-10:00pm. Concessions will be open throughout the evening. Spots are filling up quickly in TOP's Summer Leadership Program, but there is still space available for students to join TOP for exciting outdoor adventures: GLOW (Girls, Ladies, or Whoever), Vermont Adventure, and Garden Camp are still open! GLOW is an adventure-based trip catering to women-identifying and non-binary students who are looking to gain confidence in the outdoors in a supportive environment. Trip participants will develop leadership skills, explore the role of gender in the outdoors, and learn about the natural world.
