Dear TA Families, The start of the new year can be a good time to set new intentions and goals, and consider  opportunities to pursue. This week's email features extracurricular programs for middle school and high school students in the upcoming seasons, including a winter circus camp coming right up over February break, spring sports at TA on the horizon, summer TOP trips, and more. TA robotics is having another good year, with competitive middle school and high school teams earning accolades at VT/NH meets. The recent competition in Belmont, New Hampshire on Jan. 13 featured an exceptional performance by one of the TA groups.  The team known as ‘String Theory 4886S’, including Aden Perry ‘24, Connor Kutter-Walker ‘26, and Duncan MacPhee ‘27, went undefeated through the qualification and elimination rounds and earned the title of Tournament Champions. In addition they won the Robot Skills competition and garnered the coveted Excellence Award for their overall dominance and well-documented engineering process. TA will once again have a full line-up of work on display in AVA Gallery’s high school exhibition. The 16th annual youth art show will be presenting works of art created by regional high school students who have been nominated by their art teachers.  The directive from AVA to Upper Valley arts faculty is to nominate works by high school students who show exceptional promise in a variety of creative disciplines - and TA teachers Karyn Neubauer and Curran Broderick did just that. Dear TA Families, What do we mean when we describe something as 'high stakes' in an education setting? Usually the phrase is associated with various kinds of testing, such as required state assessments, a heavily-weighted course final, or college entrance exams - the outcomes of which can have a major impact on a student's future and/or a school's ranking.  I like to expand the definition of 'high stakes' to include a different kind of assessment, where the high stakes are coupled with high engagement - and the sharing of one's knowledge and skills is more public, interactive, and might even include celebration....
