The Panthers are gearing up for the winter athletics season at TA. Tryouts are done, rosters are set, and practice is in session! This year, the varsity girls basketball team welcomes new leadership after the passing last spring of Eric Ward, the Panthers beloved coach and mentor. Former assistant coach, faculty member, and alumna Jolene Cadwell '96 will take the reins alongside Robin Pettingell who will serve as the girls' assistant coach. In the 2021-2022 season, the Panthers finished the season ranked 7th in Division III, and will be working to reclaim the championship title they last won in 2020. On...

Since 2016, creative writing students at TA have had the unique opportunity to work with Vermont’s reigning poetry slam champion, author, poet, and performer Geof Hewitt. This year, Hewitt joined Mr. Mann’s Creative Writing and Emily Silver’s Composition for College and Career courses as an artist-in-residence. Over the course of the week with Hewitt, Mann and Silver’s students engaged in a variety of poetic exercises and excursions. They learned about the art and science of poetry and performance. The Poet-in-Residence unit wrapped up with 19 student and faculty poets sharing their work in the MJR Theater in a poetry slam format. The...

During the two weeks before Thanksgiving break, many students helped "put the garden to bed." English classes, social studies classes, and even advisories helped out with various activities. 7th grade English and Creative Writing took turns planting next year’s garlic with this year’s harvest as seed. Cooking for Health cleaned out the greenhouse and planted strawberries that will ripen in June. Kristen Downey’s 8th grade advisory "tucked in" our new blueberry bushes with a good weeding session and a thick layer of wood chips. Food Justice harvested napa cabbage, daikon radishes, and even our own ginger to make a big...

I am sending along a few photos to share the experience. I think everyone enjoyed the food, the company, and the sense of community. On behalf of all of us at TA, I wish everyone a wonderful holiday weekend with family and friends. In gratitude, Carrie Brennan, Head of School ...
