Thetford Academy is excited to share a unique opportunity for girls ages 12-15 who are interested in mountain biking and having fun outdoors. Little Bellas UV, a non-competitive mountain biking program, uses a mentoring model to help girls find a sense of empowerment and self-confidence. While interacting with positive mentors, conquering obstacles, and mastering a skill, participants will have fun on trails and play games in an uninhibited environment that encourages them to be themselves. Dear TA Families, Snow? What snow? Here at TA, we are getting ready for spring! Student Learning Spotlight In a full circle seasonal experience, the 7th graders spent time in the warmth of the greenhouse this week, cleaning and sorting seeds from crops they harvested last fall, such as corn and squash native to the New England Wabenaki. They also started other seeds indigenous to our area, like ground cherries, to ready for the planting season later in the spring. Guest post by Getting to Y team member Margaret Smallwood '24 – TA students on the 'Getting to Y' team facilitated a Community Dialogue on March 21, with parents, peers, and siblings in attendance. Getting to Y is a leadership club focused on public health data, issues, and solutions. Team members focus on data in the biennial Youth Risk Behavior Survey, administered nationally, and bring meaning the data, identify strengths and concerns for their local community, and work on solutions to improve quality of life for their peers. Thetford Academy's high school debate team had an exciting day at the Vermont State Tournament on Sunday. The event, briefly delayed due to the region's spring snowstorm, was hosted at St. Michael's College in Burlington, VT and featured seven different schools from across the region. The delay was just the first wrench thrown by the weather - another came on Sunday morning, when one of the team's senior members was stymied by slippery road conditions.
