TA News

For one day each year, the Thetford Academy's Woods Trail Run has doubled the size of Thetford, VT. In a matter of hours, a small city emerges on Thetford Hill: 2,000 runners from more than 50 schools and throughout New England, rows of buses in every paved parking lot, neatly parked cars in every nearby field. The Woods Trail Run is, of course, a cross country meet. But to Thetford Academy and its community, it is also a point of pride and a place of connection. Like the trail itself, the Woods Trail event was born from the entrepreneurial spirit, goodwill,...

If you haven’t been on campus lately, you might have missed some new growth happening on the Barrett Outdoor Campus.  The Barrett land, adjacent to Thetford Academy and abutting the Thetford Hill State Forest, was acquired by TA in 2015. Since then, the land has become a lively hub for outdoor learning. In just the last five years, students have designed and raised a timber framed outdoor classroom, built a sugar shack for TA’s burgeoning annual maple harvest, and installed a low ropes course for community team building activities.  The property has also provided TA a unique opportunity to expand and reinvigorate...

Soccer TA’s Panthers have been leaving it all on the field. Despite some impressive individual and team performances, both the girls and boys soccer teams have had a tough stretch of losses recently. The girls played Lake Region (1-0), Woodstock (4-1), and Harwood (7-1). They will be looking to turn things around with a home turf advantage v. Montpelier on Thursday. Of note: great work from senior Madi Powers, who scored both goals; and a strong showing from freshman Heidi Hewes in the net. The varsity boys have been working hard up and down the state, from Montpelier v. U-32 (3-0) to...

Weekly "Assembly" on Wednesdays Due to continuing public health precautions, we haven't been able to return to all-school assemblies in the gym. Instead, we continue to pre-record assembly videos like we did last year, which students and teachers experience from within their advisories. (Hence the quotation marks around the word "assembly.") We know it's not the same, and we miss being together as a big TA community, but it's one of the covid compromises that linger in our lives for now. The big goal remains the same though: fostering...
