Thetford Academy is gearing up to celebrate the return of the Woods Trail Run on Oct. 2, 2021. Once again, more than 100 New England middle and high schools will send their best runners to TA to compete on the iconic Dan Grossman Woods Trail. In the coming weeks, several colleges will be sending admissions representatives to Thetford Academy to meet with students, answer questions, and share information about their schools and programs. TA juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend any or all of these visits. College representative meetings provide an important way to connect with a school of interest, learn more about the academic program, extracurricular activities, and student life at each school. Dear TA Families, We have lots to celebrate as we wrap up week four of the school year. Here are a few highlights. 1. First up: Accolades in both the academic and athletic realms! The Thetford Academy Board of Trustees added a cohort of five new members this year. The new trustees were approved at the May 2021 meeting and jumped right into action, joining the board for their annual retreat in June on the TA campus. The new cohort represents a cross-section of professional fields and includes three TA alumni - all from the Class of 2001! Sarah (Clarke) Adams, TA Class of 2001, is a professional graphics and production designer. It's almost Mountain Day! After a one-year hiatus, Thetford Academy will celebrate it's 42nd Mountain Day on Friday, September 24. A TA tradition forged by former headmaster Frederick G. Torrey, Mountain Day challenges each of TA’s six grades to climb a nearby peak together as a class. The traditional hikes, starting in 7th grade, have included Mt. Cube, Black Mountain, Smarts Mountain, Cardigan Mountain, Mt. Ascutney, and Mt. Moosilauke–along with opportunities for alternative hikes and activities. Fall sports at TA are in full swing, and the Panthers are making us proud. In soccer, the varsity girls are 2-0-1 after Monday night's tie game v. U-32. This weekend, in a hard-fought match v. Peoples Academy at TA's Homecoming, the girls were locked in a 3-3 tie before ultimately taking the game.
