The Thetford Academy Board of Trustees added a cohort of five new members this year. The new trustees were approved at the May 2021 meeting and jumped right into action, joining the board for their annual retreat in June on the TA campus. The new cohort represents a cross-section of professional fields and includes three TA alumni - all from the Class of 2001! Sarah (Clarke) Adams, TA Class of 2001, is a professional graphics and production designer. It's almost Mountain Day! After a one-year hiatus, Thetford Academy will celebrate it's 42nd Mountain Day on Friday, September 24. A TA tradition forged by former headmaster Frederick G. Torrey, Mountain Day challenges each of TA’s six grades to climb a nearby peak together as a class. The traditional hikes, starting in 7th grade, have included Mt. Cube, Black Mountain, Smarts Mountain, Cardigan Mountain, Mt. Ascutney, and Mt. Moosilauke–along with opportunities for alternative hikes and activities. Fall sports at TA are in full swing, and the Panthers are making us proud. In soccer, the varsity girls are 2-0-1 after Monday night's tie game v. U-32. This weekend, in a hard-fought match v. Peoples Academy at TA's Homecoming, the girls were locked in a 3-3 tie before ultimately taking the game. The Vermont Academy of Science and Engineering (VASE) recently named TA faculty Derek Burkins the 2021 STEM Teacher of the Year for grades 9-12. On September 22, Burkins will be honored at VASE's annual meeting on the Middlebury College campus and share remarks about his career path and teaching philosophy. The annual event is headlined this year by educator, activist, and environmentalist Bill McKibben, who will deliver the keynote address on the topic of climate change and global warming. Dear TA Families, It's a busy weekend of TA events! Tonight we bring back the TA tradition of a fall welcome dance hosted by the senior class. This is an exciting 'first' after 18 months or more of no dances (except the senior prom last May). The Class of 2022 has organized a fun event for all students, grades 7-12, with a 'dino dance' theme. The event is casual, outdoors, and takes place from 7:30-9:30pm. Tickets are $7 and food will be for sale; all proceeds go to support the Project Senior fundraising this year. Tomorrow we host TA Homecoming with varsity soccer games...

Hello from  the Thetford Academy Counseling Department!
