TA News

Thetford Academy's "Getting to Y" teams are back in action this fall, continuing their work to create positive change in our school community. Last year, with generous support from a Mount Ascutney Prevention Partnership Prevention Network Grant, TA joined schools from all over Vermont to participate in this UP for Learning youth leadership program. Starting with each school's Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, GTY uses an action research model and peer and community engagement to give students the tools they need to make a difference in school culture. Each year, GTY teams start the school year with statewide training events...

Dear TA Families, Lots to share today in all arenas - academics, student well-being, and athletics/activities. Thanks, in advance, for making the time to read today's email, and I encourage everyone to follow a few of the links for a deeper dive too. There is so much happening at TA every week - news to share, accomplishments to celebrate, events to get on the calendar. I can't capture it all, but hope these weekly highlights help us stay connected as a school community. ACADEMIC UPDATES: Today marks the end of the first quarter of the 2021-2022 school year. Report cards will be processed...

The course description for a new Cybersecurity class is clear about the importance of the course's content in today's society: "Hackers are working 24/7 to get your data. They want your bank accounts, your passwords; they want access to your computer and your network." The course, a collaboration among River Bend Career and Technical Center, River Valley Community College, and TA is preparing students to address these issues and enter the emerging technical field of cybersecurity – where skilled professionals are in high demand. River Bend is offering Cybersecurity as a two-year, half-day program consisting of four semester-long courses that...

Dear Parents, Guardians and Families: Hello All! We are writing to share important updates from the Health Office: We are staying in touch with Thetford Elementary School regarding their very small number of positive Covid cases. Any contact tracing that needs to be done is being done. If you are not yet vaccinated: please strongly consider getting your child and yourself vaccinated against Covid on Wednesday October 20th at school from noon until 2 PM. As case counts in our state and in our county are rapidly rising, we are seeing that previously healthy kids in Vermont are now in the hospital with Covid--most are unvaccinated. If...

The Thetford Academy Alumni Association needs your help! This year, TA will be hosting both the Vermont State Cross Country Meet (Oct. 30) and the New England's meet (Nov.13). TAAA has generously donated their time and talent to run concessions at these events, with all proceeds supporting scholarships for seniors, TA athletics, and grants to support faculty and curriculum needs. If you have a few hours to spare to support TAAA in their work and enjoy TA cross country events - there are several slots for volunteers still available. Specifically, TAAA is looking for support with clean-up after the events, with...

Dear TA Families, Here are some important highlights for the week. Last Day of Quarter 1 is Friday 10/22 We want to remind everyone that there is just one week left in the first quarter of the school year. If students have assessments they want to retake, additional drafts of writing assignments to revise, make-up work from recent absences to turn in, important projects or tests coming up in the next few days -- now is the time to really focus, prep, and follow through on those deadlines. We encourage parents and students to use Web2School as a resource to track progress and assignments...
