On Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, Thetford Academy hosted its 9th annual middle school spelling bee. As in past years, the event – hosted by English teacher Joe Deffner – was held in TA's Martha Jane Rich Theater. This year's layout was a little different due to social distancing guidelines, but the rules and structure remained the same. Pronouncer and judge Rebecca Walter cited each word and shared definitions or usages when asked by the spellers. Learn more about the STEM Internship, a partnership with Hypertherm and Fujifilm Dimatix that provides a unique, hands-on and multidimensional learning experience in the high-tech manufacturing industry. On Thursday, Feb. 11, eight Thetford Academy students gathered at the timber framed outdoor classroom to recite poetry with a view. The students were competing in Vermont's Poetry Out Loud contest, hoping to be TA's representative to the state--and maybe even the national--competition. This year was the twelfth year in a row that TA has hosted a qualifying event, and the first time it was held outdoors, a COVID twist on a TA tradition. Dear TA Families and Students, It is with deep sadness that I write to you today to share the news that Sue Farrell, our beloved school nurse, passed away this morning with her family by her side. Sue was diagnosed just last month. The progression happened so very fast, and we are all trying to process this devastating turn.
