The exception is if the medicine is kept in the health office & then I will send it with their chaperones. Thetford Academy was recently awarded an $18,000 Cultural Facilities Grant from the Vermont Arts Council to complete much-needed technology upgrades in the Martha Jane Rich Theater. The MJR Theater, constructed in 2009 as part of TA's last capital campaign, is a high-quality, generously-sized performance space and a point of pride for the school's thriving theater and music programs. However, the theater's dated and often unreliable lighting, sound, and projection technology are a stumbling block for both student and community users. The performing arts have been a cornerstone of the TA curriculum and student experience for generations. In the broader community,...

The Thetford Academy Board of Trustees elected a new cohort of members for the start of the new fiscal year in July 2023. We welcome the five new trustees and thank them for their willingness to take on this important volunteer governance role. Erika Hoffman-Kiess, TA Class of 1986, brings personal and professional connections to her role as trustee. She is an alum who moved back to Thetford in 2010, after many years away, and has appreciated the experience of reconnecting with her community and seeing the evolution of Thetford Academy over the decades. In addition, Erika brings a career angle...

Dear TA Families, Early Wins During our faculty meeting earlier this week, we each reflected on a 'win' we experienced during the first days of the new school year and took time for a few people to share out with their colleagues. Hearing the list of wins was inspiring. Student enthusiasm, curiosity, and engagement were a few of the shares; I am learning so much from my students, was another. Students are writing amazing poems, creating sophisticated ceramic pots, and jumping in to auditions for the fall play were a few more sentiments shared this week. A few of us noted our relief and delight...

The Heat:The heat this week is really something and it is bothering some students. IllnessesWe have two people out with Covid this week. If you need a Covid test kit please come to the office. I have a limited supply left. Friendly Reminders:Please return the light green health cards to the health office as soon as possible. For chronic conditions:Please turn in emergency plans from your doctor as soon as possible; we need those before...

Tuck Stocking and his Rock Dojo students on stage with Noah Kahan at the Bank of NH Pavilion. If you’re a musician in the Upper Valley, then you’ve probably heard about – or if you’re lucky, witnessed – the magic happening for students at Tuck’s Rock Dojo. TA alumnus Tuck Stocking ‘96, described by his wife and business partner Kata Sasvari as a “multi-instrumentalist Vermont boy,” opened the Dojo in 2009 with a mission to “train the Upper Valley’s musical ninjas.” It seems to be working. Stocking, who, after graduating from TA, formalized his music education at the...
