TA News

Dear TA Families, The days are lengthening, this afternoon the sun is shining, and under the melting snow today a few daffodil shoots appeared on the quad. As we transition between seasons, it has been a busy time in the sugar shack with the wood stove cranking and lots of boiling - and also a busy time in the greenhouse getting seed starts going in anticipation of spring planting. The spring is a busy time in the academic calendar as well, as we ramp up culminating activities for the current year and, simultaneously, plan ahead for next school year. Here are some important...

February and March were a whirlwind for Thetford Academy's Alpine Ski Team. The Southern District Championship held at Pico on Monday, February 27th, marked the last regular season race and was the final determinant for which teams or individuals would advance to the VT State Championship at Burke. Coach Dixon shared that the competition is fierce in districts, and as ski racing is non-divisional, Thetford competes against several Division I and II teams. TA athletes put up a strong showing in the event's GS, with Maya Dixon in 12th, Anne Hesser in 19th, Charlotte Reimanis in 23rd and Ella Harvey in...

For the last several years, Thetford Academy's "Getting to Y" (GTY) middle and high school teams have been working to make an impact on the health and well-being of TA's student body. Through the process of analyzing the real data from Vermont's Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), Getting to Y empowers students to take action on the issues that affect their school community the most. This year, Thetford Academy’s middle school GTY team (Jillian Fein, Logan Wells, Tristan Woodward, Eliza Knowlton-Young, MaryAnn Maxfield, and Paul Hesser) was invited to present their work at the 10th annual Vermont Association for Middle...

The vignette-style play is set around the time of the moon landing and uses "humor and heart to teach us about who we once were, reflect on who we could be, and remind...

At Thetford Academy, we are proud of the academic content that we offer students in all of our classes. At the same time, we recognize that students are also learning skills in school that transcend single-subject information - skills like communication, problem solving, and critical thinking that they use in many facets of their life, within the classroom and beyond. In the 2021-2022 school year, we launched Thetford Academy’s 5 Transferable Skills to create a framework for students to reflect on these real-life skills over their middle/high school years. In our advisory program and in their classes, students have been...
