Dear TA Families, Spring is in the air. Next Friday, April 1, will mark the end of the third quarter. It's that time of year in schools when we are knee-deep in what's happening right now, and also have an eye toward summer, and start to plan for the following year. The Ronald McDonald Dental Van will be back the third week in April. Please let Nurse Ellen know if you want to sign your child up for teeth cleanings. For students already signed up, parents don't need to do anything. Their students will be seen automatically. If you've been sent enrollment forms, please return them as soon as possible. After a two-year interruption, TA students are returning to the Vermont One Act Play Festival! The Drama Club's two live performances of "The Insanity of Mary Girard," by Lanie Robertson are THIS FRIDAY, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. Both performances are open to the public, admission is by donation. After each show, the cast and crew will welcome feedback to help polish their production before heading to the festival. This year, TA was one of 19 schools across Vermont registered to bring the national Poetry Out Loud program to their classrooms. The program has been a part of Thetford Academy's English 10 curriculum for the past 13 years, and all TA students are invited and encouraged to compete in the school's annual Poetry Out Loud competition. In February, Mary Bosco '24 was one of those competitors, winning over TA's panel of judges and earning a spot at the statewide competition. Thetford Academy's middle school "Getting to Y" team is looking for participants who are willing to help find the answers to issues facing youth.  Over the last several months, the middle school team has been working with data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey to identify areas of concern that exist in the TA community. Using this data-driven approach, the team chose which areas of concern they felt were the most important to address, and have generated initial ideas for potential solutions.  The next step in the process is to gather community input. Each year, Thetford Academy's Timber Framing course takes on a new design build challenge. Since the course launched in 2014, the class has designed and constructed four timber-framed dugouts for TA's baseball and softball fields, a picnic pavilion on the upper soccer field, and in a ambitious two-year project - the new Timber Frame Outdoor Classroom. The Spring 2022 Timber Framing students have teamed up with the new school garden program to build a compost facility that would both serve the garden's needs and divert waste from the school's Cafe.
