TA News

Dear TA Families, The 8th graders reminded us this week of the power of venturing out to explore new places and try new experiences. The Class of 2028, with a team of TA teacher-advisors, spent Monday and Tuesday at the Aloha Foundation's Hulbert Outdoor Center in Fairlee. This was an awesome opportunity for individual growth and community building. Activities included a variety of high ropes course and problem solving challenges, along with community meals and an overnight in cabins. Doing outdoor and experiential learning in any season can be fun but quite a stretch - and doing it in wintertime is next level! Hats...

With a slow, snow-less start to the season, TA's alpine ski team had mostly dryland training on their practice schedule before last week's first race. Coach Paul Dixon shared that the lack of on-snow training led to some jitters, and that he'd "be lying if I said that nobody had butterflies in their stomach before the first race of the season." In fact, he added, "I think most had a touch of nerves before pushing out the starting gate at Saskedena Six." Despite the early season nerves, TA's team had a solid opener. The Ladies were led by junior Maya Dixon,...

Happy snowy winter! Illnesses - We have more influenza this week. The symptoms are headache, sore throat nausea, body aches often with fever. If your child has a temperature over 100.0 they need to stay home, please. - It is taking 3-6 days for students to feel well after getting the flu. If your student is sick please let the teachers know. I am also trying to let teachers know when students are out with prolonged illness. - School work can be made-up after students are back. Parents please encourage your students to be in touch with their teachers once they're back to...

Dear TA Families, The start of the new year can be a good time to set new intentions and goals, and consider  opportunities to pursue. This week's email features extracurricular programs for middle school and high school students in the upcoming seasons, including a winter circus camp coming right up over February break, spring sports at TA on the horizon, summer TOP trips, and more. These programs welcome all levels, from expert to novice, and we encourage students to get involved! Winter Circus Camp: The Upper Valley Circus Collective is thrilled to bring their Winter Camp to Thetford, VT in February. UVCC programs introduce participants...

TA robotics is having another good year, with competitive middle school and high school teams earning accolades at VT/NH meets. The recent competition in Belmont, New Hampshire on Jan. 13 featured an exceptional performance by one of the TA groups.  The team known as ‘String Theory 4886S’, including Aden Perry ‘24, Connor Kutter-Walker ‘26, and Duncan MacPhee ‘27, went undefeated through the qualification and elimination rounds and earned the title of Tournament Champions.
