Thetford Academy's student leaders had another great year in Up for Learning's Getting to 'Y' program, a statewide initiative empowering young people to make a difference in their school communities. With support from adult partners, GTY participants learn to lead a cycle of Youth Participatory Action Research and use data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) to identify and address the concerns of their peers. Thetford Academy is looking forward to hosting students and families for two community events on August 24: a new student welcome and TA’s annual back to school picnic. Beginning at 4:00 p.m., TA invites all new, incoming students to campus for a fun opportunity to get ready for the first day of school. New students will learn to navigate TA’s campus and classrooms, have time to walk their schedule, meet classmates and teachers, and get all of those first-day-of-school questions answered. Thetford Academy's Schoolhouse Rocks summer event series continues with Fun Fest, a fun-filled family event featuring bounce houses, ice cream, live music, and a petting zoo! TA's Fun Fest is free and open to the public, scheduled for 5pm - 7pm on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Thetford Academy. The Chris Billiau Quartet will be on campus performing music from the Great American Songbook, including the tunes of Broadway musical theatre, Hollywood movie musicals, and Tin Pan Alley. Tuck's Rock Dojo, the Etna music school founded by Thetford Academy alum Tuck Stocking '96 and his wife Kata Sasvari, has long been a part of the Upper Valley scene. Tuck's students can be found rocking the Norwich Fair, performing at Lebanon's NEXUS Music and Art Festival, and showcasing their talent at other UV locales throughout the year. This summer, though, six Rock Dojo students had the opportunity to take their show on the road - to a new scene in Eger, Hungary. Thetford Academy's Schoolhouse Rocks summer event series kicks off July 2, from 6pm - 8pm with acoustic duo Zach Nugent and Sunshine Garcia Becker. Zach Nugent is best known for his "ability to channel the spirit of Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Tony Rice, David Grisman (and many more) through his own songwriting and select covers."
