Thetford Academy's birthday is coming up and we're getting ready to celebrate! Founders' Day this year will be held on February 3, 2023, with the theme of "TA Departments" - we can only imagine what our students will come up with, but we know it's going to be great. This year, we're hoping to add a few alumni to our judges panel. Do you think you have what it takes? For example, do you know the difference between a mural and a banner? What makes a great ice sculpture? Is it important that the class skit include references to Steve...

Each year at TA, students are given the opportunity to tackle a project in an area of personal interest through the TA Challenge Course program. The topics for these courses are as unique as TA students themselves, and have ranged from equestrian training to aviation, climate change to gender studies. On January 10, 2023, two students took the opportunity to present their fall semester Challenge Courses to the members of the Counseling Department, detailing their topic of interest, explaining their research and learning, and showcasing their final projects. A longtime lover of writing, Oliver Yukica '25, spent his fall Challenge Course...

On Tuesday, we will begin our third quarter of the school year and a new semester. High schoolers will have an entirely new schedule of classes. Drop/Add Period & Course Availability For students in grades 9-12, the first week of the semester provides a window of time to make schedule changes. The counseling department sent an email (from Tippi Oshoniyi) to HS students and parents on Jan. 11 about course openings. There are a number of interesting electives in the...

Students in English 10 presented their Anthologies in the Martha Jane Rich Theater on January 7 to an audience of families and faculty and student guests. This year marks the 32nd year of the project started by retired teacher Peggy Sadler back in 1991. The Anthology Project is a rite of passage at Thetford Academy, one that every student must complete as part of TA’s required English curriculum. The assignment challenges students to explore identity and voice through the written word; it must include students’ own writing as well as selections from the works of others. Throughout the semester, students work to compile pieces of writing–essays,...
