On May 4, TA hosted its annual Honors Celebration, welcoming honor students and their families into the Vaughan Alumni Gymnasium for a special recognition of students' academic achievement. The theme this year was "Hope," a nod to Emily Dickinson's poem, "'Hope' is the thing with feathers." TA Panther athletes are off to an impressive start for the spring sports season. In baseball, the Panthers are six games in - with five in the win column. In their third game of the season vs. White River Valley, the team toppled the undefeated Wildcats, who had been 39-0 in two-plus seasons as a program. Dear TA Families, Here are a few of the highlights as we jumped into a busy spring schedule after break this week: Service Activities The Operation Day's Work event on Wednesday had student crews working throughout our community, painting, spring yard cleaning, baking, car washing, and more - at organizations like the Thetford Church, at people's homes, and here on campus. On Monday, May 2, VT representatives (Windsor-Orange 2) Tim Briglin and Jim Masland visited with Thetford Academy students on campus to talk food policy. The group, which included students from Casey Huling’s Why Food Matters class, Stacy Barton’s Civics class, and Betsy Pond’s World History class, have been studying government, civic engagement, and the impact decisions made by our elected leaders have on our daily lives. The representatives spoke specifically about S. 100, a bill that is currently moving through the Vermont Legislature. Dear TA Families, We had a few schoolwide activities during power hour this week, in honor of Earth Day, that raised our collective awareness about the spring growing season and sustainable practices. On Monday in advisory, students planted flowers and created a multitude of cheerful blue planters filled with pansies and friendly messages that are now adorning campus. Yesterday at lunch, the 7th graders conducted a food scraps audit that required every student to dispose of their lunchtime food waste into sorted buckets to be measured and analyzed in science classes.
