Dear TA Families, Three Appreciations to Spotlight: As the fall season shifts into its final stretch, I want to share my appreciation for all of the coaches working with our panther athletes. For many students, athletics are an important extension of the daily school experience. Over 36% of TA students are participating on a team this fall. Coaches play a big role in students' lives, as they build community on their teams, help students train and hone skills, travel across the state to away games, encourage and keep spirits high in the face of challenge and loss, and celebrate the wins and breakthroughs. Coaching is...

On Saturday, Thetford Academy once again welcomed thousands of runners and spectators from across New England for the Woods Trail Run, the school’s iconic annual cross country event. This year, the meet drew more than 2000 runners from six states and 90 different schools, with representation from all of New England and New York.  The Dan Grossman Woods Trail is a difficult 5K with long, slow hills like “Morty’s Monster” that challenge even the most talented runners. But the tough course doesn't deter athletes from coming to Thetford – instead, for most, it's part of the draw. At the Woods Trail...

Every year, the University of Vermont announces the recipients of its prestigious Green and Gold Scholarship, awarded to the most academically talented rising high school senior in every Vermont secondary school. This year, Thetford Academy is proud to share that our 2026 Green and Gold awardee is Sam Parkman.  Sam was selected from among the Class of 2026’s most academically accomplished students. His exemplary academic record includes pursuing Thetford Academy’s most rigorous courses and honors opportunities, Vermont’s dual enrollment program, and studies at Dartmouth College. Sam has also been an engaged member of the school community throughout his years at TA,...

Thetford Academy's VEX Robotics team membership has grown exponentially in the last few years, with TA's team "4886" reaching an all-time high this season with 25 members. There's a chance that number will grow, too, when the fall sports season comes to an end next month. "It's pure pandemonium in the robot shack after school," said Coach Leif Lawhite, "and the lights are often on well into the evening and on weekends." The team is working to build eight robots (five middle school and three high school bots) before their competition season begins on October 25. Each year, VEX launches...
