The first Thetford Hill Fair was held in 1913 and if you're new to Thetford, it's a must-experience event. It's an old country fair, a tea party, rummage sale, plant and book sale, and neighborhood get-together. Neighbor Liz Ryan Cole wrote about the fair in Sidenote last year, "Our good cause is to raise money to provide care and management of the Thetford Hill Common. The Class of 1972 gathered on Saturday, July 16 at the Thompson Hill Campground in East Corinth for their 50th Thetford Academy reunion. Thetford Academy alumnus and longtime basketball coach and mentor Eric Ward ‘76 was known for his kindness and leadership on and off the court. For decades, he was a beloved part of local AAU and school teams at the elementary, junior varsity, and varsity level, passing on his love of the game to a generation of local players. Though the academic year is over, TA's Thetford Outdoor Program (TOP) continues its work "to ignite academic curiosity and foster environmental stewardship through outdoor exploration, recreation, and project-based, experiential learning" with a full slate of summer wilderness leadership opportunities. Starting in June, students have participated in TOP's annual summer trail crew, working on maintenance and expansion of TA's trail system, traveled on backpacking and rock-climbing trips, and paddled and camped on the Connecticut River. On July 5, TA welcomed the new nonprofit Thetford Arthouse Cinema to the Martha Jane Rich Theater in Anderson Hall for the debut of its summer film series. The series, running throughout the summer through September 30, 2022 features 13 arthouse films (Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.), 13 repertory films (Fridays at 7:00 p.m.), and 12 children's films (Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.). After six years at the helm of Panther athletics, Blendon Salls is stepping down from the AD role at Thetford Academy to pursue new career opportunities. Blendon’s deep knowledge and love of sports, along with his strong relationship-building skills, helped the TA athletic program stay strong and increase student participation. Blendon’s can-do attitude was a boon to the TA athletic programs and they thrived under his leadership.
