Thetford Academy is looking forward to hosting students and families for two community events on Sunday, August 23: a new student welcome and TA’s annual back to school picnic. Beginning at 4:00 p.m., TA invites all new, incoming students to campus for a fun opportunity to get ready for the first day of school. New students will learn to navigate TA’s campus and classrooms, have time to walk their schedule, meet classmates and teachers, and get all of those first-day-of-school questions answered. Thetford Academy is taking an exciting leap forward with the construction of a Commons – a building that will fulfill the school's long-standing need for a kitchen and cafeteria, be a vibrant student center, and provide a welcoming hub for school and community events. Get ready to rock with Thetford's own Barn Band this weekend! The Barn Band plays at Thetford Academy this Saturday, August 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, and features five local musicians you just might know from the neighborhood. There’s been a lot of heavy equipment on campus in recent days - and curiosity to go along with the big machine presence. The summertime project underway is a conversion from oil to propane as our primary heating fuel. On Monday crews from Calkins Excavating dug up the oil storage tank that was originally installed in 1988. It was like unearthing a time capsule the size of a small submarine. Thetford Academy and Hanover High School will host the second annual Upper Valley Speech and Debate Camp (UVSDC) from August 10-14, 2026, on TA's campus. The half-day program welcomes students entering grades 7 through 10, with a curriculum built to challenge debaters at every level of experience. Over the course of the week, campers will learn the structure and strategy of Public Forum Debate, sharpen their skills through impromptu speaking and constructive argumentation, and receive direct feedback from coaches and experienced student debaters.
