TA News


Each year at TA, students are given the opportunity to tackle a project in an area of personal interest through the TA Challenge Course program. The topics for these courses are as unique as TA students themselves, and have ranged from equestrian training to aviation, climate change to gender studies. On Tuesday, we will begin our third quarter of the school year and a new semester. High schoolers will have an entirely new schedule of classes. Middle schoolers will maintain the same schedule and teachers for most of their day, with just a rotation in their afternoon arts/tech electives. Students in English 10 presented their Anthologies in the Martha Jane Rich Theater on January 7 to an audience of families and faculty and student guests. This year marks the 32nd year of the project started by retired teacher Peggy Sadler back in 1991. The Anthology Project is a rite of passage at Thetford Academy, one that every student must complete as part of TA’s required English curriculum. The assignment challenges students to explore identity and voice through the written word; it must include students’ own writing as well as selections from the works of others. It's been a great week for the Panthers! The girls basketball team faced off v. Hartford last Friday night at home, earning their fourth straight victory of the season with a 73-24 win. Junior Addie Cadwell led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Charlize Brown with 14, Kelsey Bogie 13, and Taylor West 11. Whitney Lewis also scored in the double-digits with 10 points. On Monday, the girls traveled to Oxbow for another decisive 80-39 win against the Olympians. Dear TA Families, Thank you again for supporting the day of remote learning on Wednesday. We really appreciate everyone's flexibility and adaptability!  Early January is a pivotal time in the academic calendar at TA. Students return from holiday break and immerse themselves back into classes for the final stretch of the semester. Students are working on culminating projects, essays, performances, exams, and reflections this week and next. This is an especially intense period for high school students, whose current roster of classes end as part of the semester block system and new courses begin on January 17.
